For those of you that have a current sport aircraft license, or higher, then to fly the Tecnam aircraft is a simple type-rating. Depending on your currency and type of aircraft you have been flying, it takes 1 to 5 hours, to introduce the low inertia and systems of the aircraft. If you have no previous light sports aircraft experience you need to do 2 hours P.I.C. before taking a passenger. Licenses that have lapsed can be used to get up to speed again, and if not used for over 5 years, only air law exam and a B.F.R. need to be completed.

For people who are interested in completing a full license: 'What do I need'? Your Instructor will join you up with the national club. (The affiliation to the Civil Aviation Authority, which is called the Sports Aviation Corporation) Once you are a member of this organization, U-Fly will issue you with a Pilot's logbook. The license is obtained at about 60 flying hours depending on ability. The more knowledge you acquire, the safer and more enjoyable your flying will be.

There are 5 written exams, which are straightforward 25-multi choice and are sat in-house. The medical is obtained from your local GP and is similar to a 'P' class driver's license medical.

Organize to take one or two lessons per week, as continuity greatly assists the speed in which you will learn. More lessons per week will see you advance faster and save money. A lesson takes no more than 2 hours. You are charged only for the time spent flying in the aircraft, there will be a briefing beforehand and a de-briefing on your return. Booking a couple of lessons in advance will help counteract the weather, which quite often can postpone a lesson to another day.

Daily open times are usually from 8.00 until 6pm.  Bookings are essential. Opening hours vary and we accommodate clients outside our usual hours at mutual convenience. To make a booking phone 03 443 4005. This will be with Wayne or Ruth, and ensures a flying spot for when you arrive at the airport. Turn left up Spitfire lane just through the main airport gate and we are about 80 meters up the road.
