We offer a Wanaka flight experience that leaves at 7am, that captures the true magical beauty of our planet earth as the Sun casts it glowing low rays over our magnificent mountains. If you are planning a trip to New Zealand this is a must do in Wanaka.

You will arrive at the Wanaka airport when all is quiet and have a personal experience that you will never forget. We show you how to use the plane’s controls so when we are flying you can have a go yourself. This is completely optional but the smile from doing this won’t leave you for the rest of the day and every time you remember your flight with us, that smile will return.

During your flight you will see what no-one else ever sees at this special time of the day, glowing pink glittering glaciers, shimmering waterfalls, the powder blue glow of the icefalls and the silver surface of the lake. As we fly up the Matukituki valley, following the braided river, and we see a land carved out from ancient glaciers, geology that is completely unique to this area. So spectacular is this landscape, that there are several Lord of the Rings film location sites here. If you are thinking of what to do in New Zealand-this is it. After 50 minutes of flying through this amazing landscape we return back to Wanaka airfield.

Our Route:

We fly over the Township of Wanaka and pass over Glendhu Bay, to the mouth of the Matukituki River. We go up to the base of Mount Aspiring herself and see the glaciers and sparkling waterfalls glistening in the low rays of the Sun. Back down the meandering braided river to Lake Wanaka with views of the famous Mou Wahu Island; yes that is the island with the little lake on the island in a lake. You will learn about the area and interesting stories from your local New Zealand guide as you fly over this wonderful landscape.

This flight is 50 minutes of time in the air, covering over 135 kms. You can potentially fly 40 minutes of this flight, or some of it or just sit back and enjoy the magical scenery-it is totally up to you.

On our return from the Sunrise tour, we invite you to enjoy some delicious goodies from the local Wanaka airport cafe and all people on the tour receive a gift voucher to enjoy a drink and nibble at the relaxing Edgewater Resort Wine Glass cafe.
